Philosophy

Dear Fellow Alumnus,

Welcome to the UC San Diego Financial Professionals Network, the first alumni professionals mentorship program in the University of California system. The mission of our organization is to help strengthen the UC San Diego brand on Wall Street and in the world of high finance by creating a strong career-driven network between alumni and students that ensures an ongoing progression towards this goal.

We began the Financial Professionals Network because we understand all too well the struggle the UC San Diego community faces when applying for finance positions, especially those as coveted and competitive as investment banking or investment management. We know what it feels like to pass through Library Walk on Career Fair Day and not see a single financial institution represented.

The unfortunate reality is that UC San Diego is not yet a “target school” for many of the premier firms that have established connections with older schools. This situation is made all the more frustrating because applicants from our school are no less intelligent, no less diligent, and no less qualified than candidates from target schools.

FPN is a starting point for change. We hope that our mentorship will serve to make you a more outstanding applicant as well as draw attention to the UC San Diego community as a source of significant talent. In our efforts to build this network, we have tried to bring to UC San Diego the door to success. The road ahead, although arduous and difficult - will be ultimately rewarding, and the Financial Professionals Network is the first step to success.
